The story goes that chef Joe Sheridan saved the day when he combined sweetened coffee, Irish whiskey and fresh cream to a cold and weary group of American travelers stranded at an Irish airport back in the 1940s. Now Irish coffees are a staple during the cold winter months, globally. And baby, it’s getting cold outside. Learn how to make the best Irish Coffee…
Collect the Ingredients
- Freshly brewed hot coffee
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 shot of Irish whiskey such as Jameson
- Homemade freshly whipped heavy cream
Pour the freshly brewed black coffee into a mug. In a separate glass, combine the Irish whiskey with the sugar. Mix until fully dissolved and then pour the sweetened whiskey into the coffee. Lastly, delicately pour the whipped cream over the back of a spoon into the coffee whiskey mixed drink. The layer of cream will float over the coffee without mixing.
Mix It Up
While the traditional drink calls for a float of fresh whipped cream, you can add a bit of flavor by throwing in a dash of Bailey’s Irish Cream while making the whipped cream.
Enjoy while hot! Cheers!
